"Thought runs you. Thought, however, gives false info that you are running it, that you are the one who controls it. Whereas actually thought is the one which controls each one of us."  ― David Bohm

SUSPENSION

Suspension is an inner capacity developed and refined through formal dialogues involving the renowned physicist David Bohm with the spiritual (non) teacher Jiddu Krishnamurti.

In essence it involves the capacity to see and relate more objectively to the shape of one's own mind.

A simple metaphor may be helpful to understand this complex inner skill.  Imagine that the car you drive represents your worldview.  Now imagine a world in which almost no one ever gets out of their car - such that they don't even know what the world looks like except from within their particular car.  Suspension in this metaphor would involve getting out of your car, raising it up in an auto-mechanic shop and looking closely at all of its aspects and details to get a better understanding of how it works.  And then, for good measure, test driving other people's vehicles, which may quite different (big trucks, boats, maybe even a small airplane) and which therefore convey quite a different experience of the world.

The ability to put our own way of thinking to the side so that we can experiment with embodying alternative ways of knowing, feeling and relating is an essential leadership capacity to thrive in the 21st century.
